At the U.N., Netanyahu Called Accountability a Lie. Delaware Still Pays.
Dear Delaware,
Thursday night. Benjamin Netanyahu stood at the United Nations General Assembly and called the accusation of genocide in Gaza "the greatest lie of the century."
I will say this plainly, because sugarcoating is how forever war survives: I hate what the Netanyahu regime has done. I hate what the Trump regime has enabled. That is not cable heat. That is a nurse looking at a chart and refusing to pretend the numbers are fine.
Corruption in the suit
While Netanyahu lectures the planet about morality, he remains a criminal defendant in Israel's own courts - charged with bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in a trial that has dragged on for years. There is no verdict yet. I will not invent one. But I will not pretend a man fighting those charges is a clean messenger of democracy while he demands blank checks and applause.
Gaza - what the law has already done, and what I judge
I call what has been done to Gaza a genocide. That is my moral and political judgment. Here is what the courts have actually done - nothing more, nothing less:
The International Court of Justice, in South Africa's case against Israel, ordered provisional measures under the Genocide Convention in 2024. It has not issued a final judgment finding genocide. That case is still unfinished.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on November 21, 2024, for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity - including starvation as a method of warfare. As of this week, an ICC deputy prosecutor says the court has taken no steps to withdraw those warrants. A warrant is not a conviction. It is also not a nothing. It is the Hague saying: show up and answer.
According to the United Nations' OCHA reporting, drawing on Gaza Ministry of Health figures, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been reported killed since October 2023 - contested numbers, attributed, not invented by me. The IPC warns that more than 1.4 million people in Gaza still face Crisis-or-worse food insecurity into late 2026. Gains after the October 2025 ceasefire are fragile. October 7, 2023, was a massacre - about 1,200 Israelis killed, hostages taken. Naming that truth does not erase the rubble, the starved wards, or the children who never got a chart.
Today's speech - theater for a man under a warrant
Al Jazeera, the BBC, and the Associated Press report that dozens - scores - of delegates walked out as Netanyahu took the podium. A majority of seats sat empty. The Assembly president called for order. Netanyahu's answer was not humility. It was contempt: "If there are any other moral cowards who haven't left this hall, please do so now."
He called striking Iran "one of the easiest decisions" he has ever made as prime minister. He thanked Donald Trump as his "greatest partner." Outside, protesters gathered. Jewish Voice for Peace and others demanded an end to U.S. arming. Actresses Susan Sarandon and Hannah Einbinder were among those detained near the United Nations, according to the BBC and Al Jazeera. I will not invent a headcount of nations. The empty seats and the handcuffs are already on the record.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration denied a visa to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas - again - so the occupied spoke by video while the man with an ICC warrant got the marble podium. That is not diplomacy. That is a double standard with a security badge.
The partnership that writes the check
I hate this partnership because Delawareans pay for it. Netanyahu stood at that podium and called Trump his greatest partner. Wire coverage this week says Washington did not even clear a meeting with him. Either way, U.S. weapons, vetoes, and pressure on the International Criminal Court have been the cover for this regime for years. Netanyahu smiled into that cover and called accountability a lie. Forever war does not run on speeches. It runs on your tax dollars, on diesel that climbs when the Strait chokes, on a foreign policy that treats human life as an acceptable line item.
Kitchen table. ICU voice.
I am a travel ICU and critical care nurse. I have watched families choose between the specialist and the rent. Forever war makes that choice crueler. Every blank check that props up this regime is money not fixing a Delaware hospital floor, not lowering a premium, not putting food in a pantry. You should not have to fund someone else's forever war while a man under an arrest warrant calls you a coward for looking away.
