Empty Seats, Open Warrant - What Netanyahu Left on the Record at the U.N.
Thursday at the United Nations, Benjamin Netanyahu got the marble podium. Scores of delegates walked out. A majority of seats sat empty afterward. The Assembly president called for order. Netanyahu's answer was not humility. It was contempt: "If there are any other moral cowards who have not yet left the hall, please do so now." (AP via Boston Globe; Al Jazeera)
I will not invent a country-by-country headcount. The empty seats are already on the record.
What he said - and what the courts have actually done
He called striking Iran "one of the easiest decisions" he has ever made as prime minister. He waved away Gaza genocide accusations as "the greatest lie of the century" and claimed Israel "prevented genocide." He thanked Donald Trump as having had "no greater partner." (TIME; Al Jazeera)
I call what has been done to Gaza a genocide. That is my moral and political judgment - not a final International Court of Justice ruling. The ICJ ordered provisional measures under the Genocide Convention in 2024. It has not issued a final judgment finding genocide. That case is still unfinished.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on November 21, 2024, for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity - including starvation as a method of warfare. As of this week, an ICC deputy prosecutor says the court has taken no steps to withdraw those warrants. (Middle East Eye, Sep 22) A warrant is not a conviction. It is also not theater. It is the Hague saying: show up and answer.
While he lectures the planet about morality, he remains a criminal defendant in Israel's own courts - charged with bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. There is no verdict. I will not invent one.
Numbers Delaware should not look away from
According to the United Nations' OCHA reporting, drawing on Gaza Ministry of Health figures, 73,669 Palestinians have been reported killed as of September 9, 2026 - contested numbers, attributed, not invented by me. (OCHA snapshot) The IPC projects more than 1.4 million people in Gaza still facing Crisis-or-worse food insecurity into late 2026. Gains after the October 2025 ceasefire are fragile. October 7, 2023, was a massacre - about 1,200 Israelis killed, hostages taken. Naming that truth does not erase the rubble or the empty wards.
Outside the hall, several hundred protesters gathered. Jewish Voice for Peace and others demanded an end to U.S. arming. Actresses Susan Sarandon and Hannah Einbinder were among those detained, according to Al Jazeera, the Guardian, and CBC. (Guardian; CBC)
Meanwhile, the Trump administration denied a visa to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas - again - so the occupied spoke by video while the man with an open ICC warrant got the stage. That is a double standard with a security badge. Wires also report no Trump bilateral on this abbreviated visit. Praise on the podium is not the same as a meeting. Forever war still runs on your tax dollars.
I am a travel ICU nurse from the Rehoboth area. Working people should not keep underwriting empty-seat theater for a man under an open warrant while Delaware's hospitals, premiums, and pantries wait.
