Dear Delaware,

On Friday, President Donald Trump banned CNN, MS NOW - formerly MSNBC - and Politico from the White House. On Saturday, badges were deactivated and reporters were turned away at the gate. I wrote then that the people's house does not get to curate which independent eyes may watch power spend your tax dollars.

Monday, the ban met its first public consequence.

CNN was scheduled for television press-pool duty. ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC declined to step in. The pooled cameras that normally catch the president's events - and the microphones that make his words audible over Marine One - were not there.

At a ribbon-cutting for a new White House helipad, before Marine One lifted for New York and the United Nations, Trump spoke. On the available feeds, the helicopter drowned him out. Newsmax said on air there was no microphone because the pool cameras weren't there. He did not take shouted questions. He posted about the "maiden voyage" on Truth Social instead.

That is attributed reporting from Fortune, The Wrap, the Washington Examiner, and others: the networks held the line after three newsrooms were locked out, and the first big ceremony without the pool left the commander in chief hard to hear.

I am a spiritualist - not weighed down by the dogma of religious elites. In my opinion, the Goddess made sure this divine intervention took place. The man who tried to silence independent eyes found the mic gone quiet on him. I will not pretend that is a court finding. I will say Delaware can hear the irony - and I will say what I believe.

The same Monday, CNN, MS NOW, and Politico sued in federal court in Washington, asking a judge to restore credentials and access. They say the ban is viewpoint discrimination and retaliation for coverage the White House dislikes. Trump's frame remains his own: he calls it an assault on "fake news," not on the free press. I will not launder that insult into a finding of fact. Courts will decide the credentials.

You do not need to love any cable logo to grasp the point. When government picks which reporters may walk into the building where war, rates, and executive orders get sold to the country, ordinary people lose the check that does not owe a Super PAC. Attempt to muzzle the press, and sometimes the square gets quieter for the person who wanted the quieter square.
