Trump Says He’ll Create an “AI Force” and Name a Czar. Delaware Still Doesn’t Get a Vote.

Digital landscape glowing lines arc sky — AI Force special report

This is a short companion to our AI SPECIAL REPORT - An AI researcher just quit over ‘out-of-control’ AI fears - and the Sep 13 UPDATE on Trump dismissing the pacing lane. Not a redo of that letter.

What he announced Saturday

On September 19, 2026, President Trump posted on Truth Social that he is forming an “AI Force,” “much like I did Space Force,” and will announce an AI “Czar” “in the near future.” He said the administration will “not in any way hinder or stifle” industry growth, will “cherish it, help it, and watch over it,” and look for “BAD” through the already existing criminal and civil justice system. He claimed AI could be “possibly as much as 25% of our Country’s GDP” and that the U.S. is “leading China... and I intend to keep it that way!” (Reuters; CNN; NBC)

Those are his claims. They are not a statute, a budget, or a standing force.

What is not yet real

Space Force became the sixth Armed Forces branch by law - the FY2020 NDAA, signed December 20, 2019. “AI Force,” as of this writing, is a presidential social-media pledge plus a Space Force analogy. CNN asked the White House whether it would be a military branch. The White House did not clarify military versus civilian. No czar was named. No structure, authorities, or staffing plan was published. (CNN; Newsweek)

Treat it as announced intent until Congress or the Pentagon puts paper under it. Do not pretend a sixth-style service already exists.

This would be a second AI czar. David Sacks held the prior AI/crypto czar role, stepped down around March 2026 after a special-government-employee time limit, and moved to an advisory lane (PCAST). He has echoed skepticism of new federal AI rules. (Reuters)

The builders asked to pace. The President waved them off - then branded a Force

Last week the people closest to the fuse asked for time: Anthropic’s Dario Amodei to pace the frontier; OpenAI’s Sam Altman on independent evaluators; Elon Musk saying Amodei was right. From Doonbeg, Trump called the people raising alarms “very negative forces” and waved the scenarios as “things that won’t happen.” He has also called AI fears a “hoax.” (Reuters; Axios)

Now he wraps AI in Space Force rhetoric while rejecting new guardrails and leaning on a China-race frame. That is not democracy listening. That is concentrated power naming the mic.

Extinction risk - dual-frame, not campaign fact

Researchers and safety leads have warned - including Anthropic’s Jacob Coxon quitting over “out-of-control” fears, and alignment lead Evan Hubinger backing the seriousness of catastrophic risk with a personal decade estimate above ten percent. Those are expert/builder warnings, contested, not settled science, and not something this campaign asserts as proven fate. Trump’s “hoax” / “won’t happen” line is the other frame. Hold both. Invent neither. (Prior SPECIAL; BBC; NBC)

Separate stitch: Golden Dome is already putting AI on the kill-chain clock

Do not merge Golden Dome into the AI Force. They are not the same entity.

Separately, the Space Force-led Golden Dome missile-defense effort is already talking about AI in command-and-control at “machine speed” - peacetime human-in-the-loop shifting toward more automation as threats accelerate, per Gen. Michael Guetlein (Sep 14). Projected costs run roughly $175-180 billion in presidential/current reporting, with independent estimates much higher and contested. Delaware taxpayers are already on that bill while getting no vote on lab pacing or an undefined AI Force. (Aviation Week; DefenseScoop)

Who gets the wheel

Working people do not sit on those boards. You do not get a vote when the White House treats Saturday’s builder consensus as noise and Sunday’s answer is a Force with no org chart. I am a former travel ICU nurse and a people-funded write-in. I will not pretend “whoever wins AI wins” is destiny when the people writing the code asked for time - and when militarized AI is already being wired into systems you pay for.
