Another night of tankers and forever war
Friends —
Today's reporting from the Iran war liveblog is grim in its familiarity.
According to Al Jazeera and Reuters, U.S. forces again struck Iranian oil tankers — including near Kharg Island, a critical hub for oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz — after what the U.S. described as attempted missile attacks on a Navy warship. Iranian media reported crews evacuated. The IRGC Navy warned tankers near Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports to leave, whether at anchor or not. Iran promised retaliation and threatened U.S. bases in neighboring countries.
Separately, Pentagon figures cited in that coverage put American casualties since this war began at hundreds wounded and a growing death toll — including additional wounded reported today. I will not invent numbers beyond what the public record states. I will say this: every added name on that list is a person whose family will carry the cost long after the press conference ends.
I spent years as a nurse. I worked critical care, including under Department of Defense contract. I know what endless conflict does to the people we send — and to the civilians who never get a microphone. I left the bedside after years on the front lines. I rebuilt in Delaware. That is why I refuse the soft language of "small potatoes" for a war that raises prices at the pump, empties readiness, and treats working families as an afterthought while contractors and power brokers treat permanent conflict as a business model.
The Constitution gives Congress the war power for a reason. Forever wars without honest accounting — without clear ends, without civilian protection, without democratic consent — are not strength. They are drift. And drift is how a republic learns to accept the unacceptable.
This campaign takes no Super PAC money. No outside special interests writing the script. We are people-funded so a working-class Delawarean can say out loud what a bought politics prefers to manage: American tax dollars and American lives must not underwrite endless war.
