Oil tanker in the Persian Gulf — another vessel hit in Iraqi waters as the conflict widens

UPDATE — Another tanker hit. This time in Iraqi waters.

Friends —

Another commercial tanker has been hit — this time in Iraqi waters.

According to UKMTO and Iraqi authorities, the Panama-flagged tanker New Andros was struck early Wednesday near al-Faw / the Grand al-Faw area — about 6 a.m. local time. UKMTO described an unknown projectile; the crew was reported safe; no environmental impact was reported in that advisory.

Baghdad's transport ministry cited hull damage, no casualties, and no cargo leak. Reuters, citing Iraqi port officials, reported a drone strike, a fire that was extinguished, 22 crew members safe, and about 2 million barrels of Iraqi fuel oil aboard.

I will not name a perpetrator. Attribution is not established in the public record I am using. When officials and wires disagree on the weapon and leave the attacker unnamed, a Senator's job is to say so — not to fill the gap with a guess.

Separately, Iran's IRGC has said a maritime restricted zone will extend from Chabahar into the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea, with coordinates still to be determined. That is a claim about future rules of the sea while commercial crews are already under fire.

This is what forever war does to ordinary shipping — and to the wallets of working people who never voted for permanent conflict. Tankers, bases, evacuate orders, oil markets: the cost lands on families long before it lands on the people who profit from the machine.

I spent years as a nurse. I worked critical care, including under Department of Defense contract. I left the bedside after years on the front lines. I rebuilt in Delaware. I will not treat endless escalation as background noise.

The Constitution gives Congress the war power for a reason. Drift is not strength.
